A volunteer-led campaign to save our Short Term Rentals
WHAT ARE WE CALLING FOR? – We accept that a registration system for Short-Term Rentals is necessary. – We want STR’s vital role in the housing market recognised – it’s not just for tourists. – We are calling for clarity in Planning Permission guidelines – We feel that by engaging with the STR sector, a workable solution can be found that will not impact on genuine Short-Term Rental properties.

WHAT CAN YOU DO?
Contact your public representatives, TDS, Senators and Councillors and tell them your story. Why do you host? What does it mean to your household and what does it mean to your local economy? Speak to the local tourist attractions and local businesses that benefit from your short-term rental and ask them to do the same.
Who are we? We are a group of Short Term Rental hosts who, between us, welcome thousands of visitors to enjoy all that Ireland has to offer. Our unique properties range from houses and apartments, to yurts and glamping pods, to farm-stays and homeshares and everything in between.
An STR is a Short Term Rental. There are lots of terms used for the same thing; Short-Term Lets (STL), Short-Term Tourist Lets (STTL); self-catering accommodation, etc.
We are looking for clarity for our sector. Clear planning permission requirements and a pause on the introduction of new legislation until that clarity is given.
The proposed new legislation, Registration of Short Term Tourist Letting Bill 2022 is due to be enacted shortly. The proposal is to create a new register for ALL short term rentals in the country. The proposed legislation is troubling for the sector. Along with granting new powers to Fáilte Ireland, it raises the serious issue of planning permission laws being applied to the entire country is a “one-size-fits-all” approach.
